OPPORTUNITIES

For undergraduate students:

I can host a limited number of undergraduate students each semester to do thesis projects or capstone research projects. Depending on experience level and length of internship, you would either help design or be assigned a small project related to our research interests. In exchange for training, space, and materials for your project, you would be asked to help assist with general lab upkeep while your experiments are running. Please send a resume to me at lindsay.triplett@ct.gov if you are interested. We occasionally have paid hourly positions open up, which will be advertised on the front page of the CT Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) website. Outstanding high school seniors may also apply if they are above the age of 18.

For current college freshmen and sophomores: In the summer of 2019 I will be coordinating the third class of Summer Undergraduate Fellows in Plant Health and Protection (Plant Health Fellows for short). Please check our program website starting in November 2018 for ten paid internship opportunities in summer 2019!

I am happy to help students develop an application for summer undergraduate research fellowships in my lab, such as those from the ASPB or the ASM. These are typically due in early February, so anyone interested should contact me no later than the beginning of January.

For graduate students and postdocs:

CAES is not a university-affiliated entity, so I am not able to serve as the main advisor of graduate students. However, if you are a graduate student whose interests align with my projects, or if your project could benefit from the research farms and other resources at CAES, I may be able to serve on your committee or host you as part of a collaboration with your home university. I have also mentored international graduate students who want to fulfill an internship requirement for their degree program and improve their scientific English. New Haven has many cultural offerings and is a short train ride from several major U.S. cities, so it's a great base location from which to see the East Coast!

Due to the competitive funding climate, funded postdoctoral positions may be available sporadically at best. However, I have helped students develop successful proposals for postdoctoral training fellowships including those offered by the NSF and the USDA, so students should contact me if you are interested in writing a proposal.
